Teachers Award Ceremony and IT Training - Blog by Deepak Saravanan, Staff Member, Vetrivel Foundation.

Putting down few thoughts on my experience in attending an Award Function for best teachers organised and Hosted by Vetrivel Foundation, MD whatsapp Group Admin Mr.Muralidharan and Mr.Gawthamarajan of Tamil Virtual Academy. The awards are for the effective participation in reviewing Khan Academy Tamil Translation Videos. Teachers also participated in a State level software Training workshop on Mathematical Education on Feb 19, 2017 (Sunday) at AVS Engineering college, Salem, Tamil Nadu

It was a bright Sunday morning when we reached the college from chennai to Salem AVS Engineering College. We made necessary arrangements for the workshop programs, mounted the banners of Vetrivel Foundation and arranged the Shields and certificates for the awardees for a great startup. I was assisted by Mr.Gawtham of Tamil Virtual Academy and Mr.Muralidaran, Government School Teacher Villupuram who was the Admin of MD whatsapp group played a major role in organising the teachers.

The program started around 9.30 A.M. (IST). I was surprised to see that all the effective participants who took part in the Reviewing program were assembled there, on a Sunday morning. This shows their responsibility and attitude towards their work.

The Function started with the welcome address by Mrs.Chitra Kumaresan, Tamilnadu Textbook Corporation followed by a great speech by the Honourable Chief Guest Dr.Venkatachary Ranganathan ADPC, Salem. On his speech, he orated about the efficiency of the teachers and how effective they are in delivering the knowledge. He also said that Teachers from TamilNadu were always top ranking among the states of India in improving the sylabus and the teaching methods. He then explained about ABL teaching methods. He appreciated the efforts taken by the teachers to attend this training and thanked the Organisers of the training process, and wished the training great success.

Then the morning session continued, with teachers introducing themselves among them, explaining about their key skills and their efforts taken by them for the betterment of the children. Some of the teachers and their skills that I would recall are as follows:

At around 11.00.A.M, the training session began and the first presentation was hosted by Mr.Ganesh Anbu. In that session, he taught how to work on GeoGebra software which is related to Geometry, Arcs, Axis and so on. Every participating teacher had their own laptop, performed the trial tasks and then raised queries to get them clarified. After this session lunch was provided by the Vetrivel Foundation, which is hosting the workshop.

The Second Session started around 1.30.P.M, with an software introducion made by Mr.A.Guru. The name of the software is H5P in short what that it actually mean is HTML 5 Package, which is an open source software that can create and manage web files which can be stored retrieved and downloaded and installed anywhere needed that binds all the resources together.

Following the discussion on H5P, Mrs.Rajee from London, conversed with these maths legends wishing them on their success and gave assurance to assist them any time. Mr.Asir Julious, SCERT staff from Chennai also joined them introducing “ Connecting classroom” technique to share knowledge instantly from anywhere. He also insisted teachers to make their own videos and assist in Khan Academy Video Translations to finish them as soon as possible.

The Next session was about Robocompass, which is also a maths releated software hosted by Mr.Vaitheswaraprabu famous for his Doozy Study blog, which posess algebric and geometric process of creation and interaction between the user and the program. This was then followed by Software Shanmuga Sundaram’s training on offline Google Chrome Apps. He also intoduced a software called Active presenter which is used to make snapshots and write some description on it and to convert powerpoints to video format and so on.
